SAFETY HINTS

CAR WINTERIZING

As winter approaches, it's a good time to start thinking abou getting your vehicle(s) ready for the cold, ice and snow that are impending. Check the fluid levels of your antifreeze, transmission, brakes, windshield wiper solution and of course, your oil.  Make sure your lights, windshield wipers, heater/defroster, brakes, and tires are all working well and don't show signs of wear. Make sure your car gets a tune up so that the oil and air filters are change and that the fuel filters are checked for clogs or leaks.

Also, get together a winter emergency kit for your trunk.  You will want things like:

Your cell phone.
A shovel - in case you need to remove snow from around your tires.
Spare tire and tools to change a flat tire.
Sand or cat litter to use for traction under your tires.
Flashlight and extra batteries.
Lighter or waterproof matches.
Blankets and/or sleeping bags.
Empty coffee can and votive candles - in case you need to melt snow for water.
Extra hat, mittens and socks.
Jumper cables.
First Aid Kit
Non-perishable food - especially high-energy foods like protein bars or trail mix.

Ice scraper and a tow chain.
