McCarthy Improvement Announces Retirement of Scott Hutter as President

McCarthy Improvement, the leading commercial general contractor in concrete paving, earthwork, underground utilities and bridge work, announced today the retirement of Scott Hutter, president of McCarthy Improvement and head of the construction division at McCarthy-Bush Corporation, after more than four years of distinguished service, effective the end of October.

“Scott’s contributions have been significant and meaningful,” said Greg Bush, CEO of McCarthy-Bush Corporation. “Many of the improvements Scott initiated will live on in the construction division. I am thankful for his outstanding efforts and wish him great success in his future endeavors.”

Hutter began his career at Montgomery Elevator, which was later purchased by KONE, a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry, where he advanced to senior vice president. After 24 years at KONE, Hutter became the President, CEO, and board member of Martin Engineering, a family-owned business that develops bulk material handling solutions including belt cleaners and dust management solutions. It was during his 11-year tenure at Martin Engineering when Hutter joined the McCarthy-Bush Corporation’s board of directors before being offered his current positions.

Alan Sweat to take over as interim President.

Alan Sweat will be replacing Hutter as the interim president of McCarthy Improvement. Sweat led McCarthy Improvement’s former southeast division in heavy civil with a focus on airports for nine years and is working alongside Hutter to ensure a smooth transition. Sweat has 36 years of experience in the construction industry with a wide area of scope from running large ready mix operations in the southeast to patenting concrete products in the northeast.

Sweat said, “I’m excited to be working alongside the talented and dedicated team at McCarthy Improvement. In addition, I’m looking forward to helping the organization continue to grow its footprint in the public/private and industrial sectors and continue meeting the needs of our heavy civil clients.”
