McCarthy Improvement completed extensive site development, earthwork, and underground utility installation to support ADM’s ability to safely and efficiently discharge wastewater through the City of Clinton’s treatment system. As part of a major regional wastewater expansion, the project strengthened critical infrastructure while meeting operational and regulatory requirements.
The project began with large-scale site preparation, including clearing and grubbing, excavation, and grading for new treatment facilities:
- Our team removed approximately 96,000 cubic yards of unsuitable material
- Imported and placed nearly 130,000 cubic yards of borrow
- Installed 20,000 linear feet of perforated subdrain tile
- Placed 13,000 cubic yards of topsoil
- Constructed 20 settlement platforms to support long-term site stability.
- A temporary construction access road from Highway 67 was also built to keep the project moving efficiently.
To complete the site, our team installed the paving and concrete infrastructure needed for daily operations, including 4,400 tons of aggregate base, 3,800 square yards of 8-inch PCC pavement, 370 square yards of 7-inch PCC pavement, and 6,300 square yards of sidewalk.
We also installed all underground utilities within five feet of the new structures, including 12- to 24-inch PVC and ductile iron piping, contractor-furnished valves, and final connections to reactor basins and manholes.
Valued at $8.3 million, this project showcases McCarthy Improvement’s ability to manage complex civil infrastructure
projects. From mass excavation and underground utilities to finished site improvements, delivering the foundation for reliable industrial and municipal wastewater operations for years to come.
