Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Project: Domestic CV & Taxi Hold Lot Relocation

Project Description

Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport (HJAIA) initiated a six billion dollar overhaul over a 20-years period. Part of the master plan involved relocating the taxi cab lot to a more suitable location for both domestic terminals. McCarthy and JV partner Technique Concrete Construction spent 13 months transforming the former rental car lot (approximately 18 acres) into a fully functional road system and staging area for the ground transportation personnel.

This Construction Management project contained 11,000 SY of 10” PCC paving, a bridge, a 10,000 SF building (built by sister company Bush Construction), a 100,000-gallon lift station, a 50,000 SF underground water detention system, 25,000 SF of MSE walls and a very large parking lot. Upon completion, this project achieved LEED Gold Certification. McCarthy has performed several civil projects at Hartsfield, from roads to runways, but this was the first cross-over type project with the City of Atlanta.
