Celebrating Women in Construction: Raeann Zawada’s Journey at McCarthy Improvement

In honor of Women in Construction Week, we’re shining a light on Raeann Zawada, a dedicated member of the McCarthy Improvement team for the last eight years.

Raeann joined MCI in 2017 after working for several national companies with a background in accounting and finance. Shortly after, she transitioned to working for our Shared Services team under the McCarthy-Bush Corporation umbrella, where experts in accounting, HR, payroll, and marketing service all McB companies.

While sharing her knowledge and expertise across all the companies, Raeann has developed a passion for Project and Job Cost Accounting. She supports the MCI Operations team with cost analyses and financial insights. Raeann efficiently manages Accounts Receivable (AR), Accounts Payable (AP), and compliance for various government, commercial, and industrial projects. The dynamic nature of her work keeps her engaged and continuously learning, which she greatly enjoys. Raeann represents the important role women play in construction, motivating and encouraging those working alongside her.

We sat down to ask her a few questions about her time at MCI and her perceptions of women in construction:

You’ve been a part of the MCI team for many years, through the many changes, what do you think has remained constant?

Although McCarthy Improvement is always evolving to the demands of the Construction industry, the team has always worked well together to obtain their goals and overcome challenges. MCI is adaptable and their processes are amendable for growing and improving MCI’s productivity and profitability. Everyone can make an impact.

Why do you think it’s important to have women in construction-related fields?

Construction requires teamwork and collaboration. Every person brings a unique perspective and skillset to this team environment. As they say, “One person’s weakness is another person’s strength.” Collaboration amongst all types of people and specialties is required to solve problems and truly be successful.

What advice would you give to young women considering a career in construction?

There are so many opportunities for women in Construction: various skilled trades, project management, estimating, finance, safety administration, law and more. Don’t assume these employment opportunities are only available or acceptable for men. Explore these opportunities with an open mind and you just might find something truly fulfilling!

This Women in Construction Week, we celebrate Raeann and all the women who dedicate themselves to challenging the status quo in our industry. Thank you for all you do!
